In light of new evidence, the father of a deceased Dutch model has demanded Malaysian police perform a second autopsy on his daughter.
Ivana Esther Robert Smit, 19, fell to her death at a condominium in Dang Wangi, Kuala Lumpur on Dec 7.
The death was previously classified as sudden death but investigators are now re-examining the case after the family suspected foul play.
Ivana’s father Marcel Smit has engaged lawyer Muhd Farhan Shafee to represent him and to urge police to conduct a second post-mortem, according to The Malay Mail.
“This (second autopsy) is to ensure no stone is left unturned over the death of my daughter.
“I have instructed my lawyers to submit a formal request to the police to obtain a green light to conduct the second post-mortem.
“I will arrange for a Dutch pathologist to fly down and cooperate with the local pathologists.
“I want to find out if she was already dead before she went over the balcony on the 20th floor. If that did indeed happen, then we have a whole new case on our hands,” Smit was quoted as saying.
Smit (photo) also demanded an explanation for the injuries he saw on Ivana’s body.
“There were several dots of blue and black bruises on her neck, which my wife, son, a friend, and I all saw in the (Hospital Kuala Lumpur) mortuary.
“How was there no explanation for those bruises on her body?” he said in the report.
Smit added that the family had to wait several hours at the hospital before being asked to identify Ivana’s body, and were later denied a copy of the autopsy report.
Ivana ‘not in the right frame of mind’
The police previously told Ivana's family that they found traces of alcohol, ecstasy, and amphetamines in her system during the post-mortem. She was also naked when found.
Smit disputed that his daughter had ingested drugs voluntarily and that she would be nude on a balcony.
“She could have taken the drugs, I do not deny that.
“However I have a strong feeling she was not in the right frame of mind when she was offered the substances.
“If they claimed she was nude, where are her undergarments?
“My daughter would never be standing nude in the balcony. She is a shy person,” he told the daily.
The family previously urged the Interpol to intervene in the investigation.
Ivana was found on the balcony of a sixth-floor unit of the condominium, having fallen from the 20th floor, at about 3pm last Thursday.
She had earlier gone out drinking with an American man and his Kazakh wife, who owned the unit on the 20th floor, but Malaysian police have ruled out foul play, classifying the case as sudden death.
Ivana's last known communication was a selfie she had sent to her boyfriend at about 7.25am last Thursday, saying she had gone home with the couple after a night out.
Her father previously claimed that neighbours had heard shouting and arguments from the couple's condominium unit on the morning of the incident and that the couple did not contact police until 3pm, some five hours after Ivana was believed to have fallen to her death.
The couple reportedly told the police that the husband had slept throughout the episode and that his wife had gone to send their four-year-old son to school.
Ivana was the second runner-up in the Malaysia Supermodel Search 2014 when she was 15.
