Rahman invites Sheila Majid, other celebs to EPU economic briefing
Vgeorgemy: Singer Sheila Majid and other celebrities who intend to attend the briefing by the Economic Planning Unit (EPU) on the state of the economy should carry the report prepared by the G25 group namely, “Invigorating Economic Confidence in Malaysia”, and submit it as their inputs.
This report summarises all the economic issues faced by Malaysians in 92 pages. Thus, there is no need to reinvent the wheel.
Shunyata: Hopefully Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Abdul Rahman Dahlan is not of the opinion that our nation's artistes are cyborgs with RAM of downloadable software. Sorry, I mean, malware.
While I feel sorry for Sheila, actress Nur Fathia Latiff and a host of other celebs for the threats and violence directed at them, this incident sheds light on how little support the ruling party has left, the kind of people that it is made up of, and just how desperate and ugly this force (not) to be reckoned with is.
As for those in the entertainment industry who spew threats and vulgarities at their own kind, shame on you.
Ozzie Jo: What a low blow, making references to artistes in a "particular industry". Who are you to make jibes like this?
Pornstars, or any stars, along with those of us who do our daily share of legitimate hard work, pay your salaries. We pay taxes according to how much we have earned through our blood, sweat and tears, which is far more than a lot of you leeches do.
How much of unreported/untaxed aka illegal income do some of you earn that you have not accounted for? And while you are pondering that question, ask your boss that too.
Senior Citizen: Abdul Rahman, millions of Malaysians are feeling the pinch of the GST (goods and services tax), rising cost of living and the weak currency.
So do you want to invite all of them to the Economic Planning Unit (EPU) to hear your briefing?
Anonymous 2460391489930458: Seriously? Abdul Rahman needs to organise a meeting to find out what Sheila meant when she said what she said?
I thought she said it in plain English which echoes what millions of Malaysians have been saying on social media and protest rallies? Which part of her remark does he not understand?
Wg321: Abdul Rahman may try to brainwash Sheila by telling her it is not the fault of Umno when: 1) food is expensive, 2) the cost of living shoots up, 3) the ringgit takes a big plunge, 4) jobs are scarce, and 5) we face rising debt, especially 1MDB; and that we shouldn’t listen to the opposition.
He may use bombastic economic and financial terms to frighten Sheila. It is advisable that she should be accompanied by her lawyer if she wants to meet him.
Anonymous 788831449650206: Abdul Rahman will have a hard time explaining why 1MDB funds are not accounted for.
US attorney-general Jeff Sessions has apparently described Malaysia as the most kleptocratic nation in the world. MO1 must not assume that all Malays are dumb.
Leonie: Abdul Rahman, you should also explain to PKR's Rafizi Ramli or DAP's Tony Pua, or some other informed opposition parliamentarians since this is an EPU briefing.
Be a man of substance (and honour). The more the public see you as a bully, the surer you will be defeated at the next GE.
Anonymous 2436471476414726: Indeed, the rest of the rakyat also want to know why the government withdraws subsidies, imposes GST and other taxes, what the government is doing about rampant corruption, and why the value of our currency is depreciating, etc.
Yes, we would rather you invite MPs like Rafizi, Pua and Amanah's Khalid Samad for a dialogue in the presence of celebrities.
Come on Abdul Rahman, be a man. Take on someone your size.
CQ Muar: Is Abdul Rahman finding ways to "intimidate" those celebrities just because they had adverse views about the cost of living in this country?
And why restrict the EPU briefing to only celebrities? Sheila and other celebrities should ignore his invitation. After all, he's just another minister taking instructions from Malaysian Official 1 (MO1).
Salvage Malaysia: This is a very good move by Abdul Rahman. It shows the openness of some Umno ministers to accept criticisms and to try to rebut it professionally. Umno should have more leaders like him.
Sama2 Rojak: But why do you have to bash them up first, then invite them? It would have been better the other way around.
Umno leaders think bullying is the way forward. Sorry, you are wrong. Your time is up.
Anonymous_1423827415: "The Kota Belud MP said there was nothing wrong with celebrities commenting on current affairs, but warned that they should be prepared to face criticism."
The same goes to you, Pak Menteri. Be prepared to face criticism and do not threaten those who do not agree with you.
Annonymous: Sheila and the celebrities will face more Umno propaganda and will be "nicely" told off under the guise of this so-called EPU economic briefing.
You "ungrateful" Malay celebrities are "traitors" who should thank Umno for your success - just like what they are telling billionaire Robert Kuok – because without Umno you are nothing and it is all because of Umno that you are successful and became a big shot. Comprende?
Hang Babeuf: Abdul Rahman, can I come too?
