The floods in Terengganu have claimed its first victim.

A 12-year-old boy, Kalid Al Wyalid Juzaiman, was found drowned in a canal in Kampung Tok Hakim, Bukit Payung, at 1.30pm today.

A spokesperson for the Fire and Rescue Department said fire and rescue personnel found Khalid's body about three hours after he was reported to have fallen into the canal, about 10 am.

“The boy was playing near the canal, swollen due to the heavy rain last night. He had gone there with two of his friends.

“The friends are safe. The body of Kalid was found about 30 metres away from where he had fallen into the water,” the spokesperson said in a statement.
