Blogger Papagomo, whose real name is Wan Muhammad Azri Wan Deris, has been given until Dec 4 by the High Court in Kuala Lumpur to pay more than RM951,000 in damages for defaming former opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim.
The date was given by registrar Husna Zulkifli following a hearing of bankruptcy proceeding against the blogger after his lawyer, Irna Shahana Shamsuddin, informed the court that Wan Azri has given a proposal for the payment.
Following that, Husna has fixed the date for Wan Azri to pay up the sum.
Anwar was represented by J Leela, Latheefa Koya, and Shahid Adli Kamarudin.
The PKR de facto leader named Wan Azri in the RM100 million defamation suit in 2013, following the publication of lewd images said to be of Anwar with another man.
In 2014, Justice Rosilah Yop of the High Court in Kuala Lumpur found Wan Azri to have maliciously defamed Anwar, and awarded RM800,000 in damages after another blogger, Mohd Fauzi Mohd Azmi, identified Wan Azri as Papagomo.
The Court of Appeal upheld this decision in December 2015, after the blogger appealed against the quantum of the damages and the whole of the High Court's decision, where it ruled there was no error in the lower court's decision.
A three-member Federal Court bench had in July last year refused to grant leave to Papagomo to appeal the decision and hence he was ordered to pay up.
Besides the RM800,000 in damages awarded to Anwar, there are interests on the amount not paid for the past four years, which runs in excess of RM101,000 plus total costs of RM50,000.
As he failed to pay up, bankruptcy proceedings were initiated against the blogger. Last week, Wan Azri embarked on a fundraising exercise to pay for the damages.
