A male teacher who allegedly solicited sexual favours from a student in return for help in getting her a job may face dismissal.

Deputy Education Minister P Kamalanathan asserted that the ministry would not hesitate to sack the teacher if the allegations were true.

“It can be regarded as a criminal breach of trust because he had been entrusted by the student’s family to act as a guardian. This person cannot be in school if it is true. There is no place for him... dangerous, very dangerous.

“But let’s wait for the final report from the District Education Office and State Education Department, and the police are investigating as well,” he told reporters after launching the national-level Student Affairs Symposium at the Johor education department in Johor Bahru today.

He was commenting on the case involving a teacher at a Tamil school who allegedly promised to secure employment for a female student in exchange for sexual favours.

The teacher aged 56, who was also an MIC branch leader, made the proposal through the student’s mother.

In an audio clip of their conversation lasting eight minutes and 49 seconds, which went viral in Whatsapp, the man claimed he had assisted many girls who had just finished sitting for their Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination to find employment after they had sex with him.

Meanwhile, the suspect is believed to have resigned from his post in MIC following the alleged exposure.

On a separate issue about gangsterism among students, Kamalanathan said the principal or school head should not conceal it.
