The man with a "Datuk Seri" title who allegedly assaulted three People's Volunteer Corps (Rela) personnel recently has been arrested after surrendering himself to the police this afternoon.
According to China Press, the man arrived at the Ampang district police headquarters at about 3.50pm today in a Bentley.
The suspect was accompanied by his lawyer and 10 others.
According to Berita Harian, the man would have to spend the night in detention and be subjected to remand proceedings tomorrow.
Yesterday, authorities had urged the "Datuk Seri" to surrender after a video clip depicting the assault made rounds online.
Selangor police officials said the suspect was being investigated for causing hurt and obstructing public servants from performing their duties, as reported by China Press.
The "Datuk Seri" was said to have assaulted three Rela personnel after a complaint was made against him for blocking traffic at a temple function last Friday.
Meanwhile, another report cited Ampang district Rela chief Ho Hoong Keong as claiming that he had been contacted by individuals who were offering him and the three victims RM10,000 if the police reports were retracted.
Ho said the offer was rejected.
