Harapan details GST abolition plan

Pakatan Harapan unveiled its alternative Budget 2018 and for the first time, detailed the hard numbers of how it will abolish the goods and services tax (GST).

The alternative budget also promises to increase the oil royalty from five percent to 20 percent for oil-producing states and to focus developmental expenditure on the country's poorest states.

International Trade and Industry Minister Mustapa Mohamed criticised the alternative budget, accusing Harapan of trying to drive the country into bankruptcy.

Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Abdul Rahman Dahlan claimed the alternative budget was "irresponsible, unrealistic and unsustainable".

However, Kelana Jaya MP Wong Chen, who led the alternative budget committee, stressed that the document is "extremely realistic" and can be achieved.

Bayan Baru MP Sim Tze Tzin complained about the Employees Provident Fund's RM152 billion investments in the US, pointing out that it could be used to build 3.5 East Coast Rail Lines (ECRL).

Kluang MP Liew Chin Tong claimed Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak’s economic policies have been in a "standstill" since he came to power.

Papagomo hijacks Invoke

Blogger Wan Muhammad Azri Wan Deris, popularly known as Papagomo, claimed that he had obtained the trademark for "Invoke Solutions", the name of PKR vice-president Rafizi Ramli's research institute.

Papagomo also announced a "Rafizi-inspired" donation drive to pay the damages he owed PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim after losing in a defamation case.

Rafizi laughed at Papagomo's stunt, stating that the blogger would need to take him to court to prevent his use of the name "Invoke".

Rafizi and former bank clerk Johari Mohamad were ordered by the Shah Alam sessions court to enter their defence over the alleged leaking of bank information in relation to the National Feedlot Corporation case.

Petaling Jaya Utara MP Tony Pua accused the prime minister of peddling "fake news" by claiming that 1MDB had done well for the country.

Attorney-general Mohamed Apandi Ali lodged a police report against blogger Raja Petra Kamaruddin for suggesting that he (Apandi) was involved in corruption.

Penang gov't and civil society quarrel over landslide

The developer whose hillside development was hit by a deadly landslide, which claimed the lives of 11 workers, has pledged to cooperate with authorities investigating the incident.

Deputy Penang Chief Minister II P Ramasamy and Penang Forum are engaged in a war of words over hillside developments.

MCA and PSM accused Penang leaders of being arrogant for their responses over the landslide.
