The Cameron Highlands parliamentary constituency remains a MIC seat, said its party president Dr S Subramaniam.
He said claims by MyPPP president M Kayveas that Cameron Highlands would be returned to MyPPP was not true.
“The prime minister himself has informed me that the seat belongs to MIC and this will not be changed to other parties despite him (Kayveas) claiming the seat belongs to them,” he told reporters after hosting a Deepavali open house at his residence in Lorong Ujong Pasir in Malacca today.
Subramaniam, who is also health minister, said the prime minister remained steadfast that the Cameron Highlands seat belonged to MIC and it was agreed upon by other BN component parties.
Subramaniam said MyPPP’s claim that the parliamentary seat belonged to MyPPP based on historical factors was inaccurate as “history is changing”.
He was asked to comment on the claims made by Kayveas that Cameron Highlands would be handed over to MyPPP based on the promise made by former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad in 2000.
