A second brother of Parti Warisan Sabah (Warisan) president Shafie Apdal has been arrested by MACC.
Mohammad Yusof Apdal, the Lahad Datu state assemblyperson, was arrested earlier today after presenting himself at the MACC office in Kota Kinabalu, according to The Star.
Unlike his brother, Yusof had remained in Umno, and is the Silam division chief.
On Oct 10, Shafie's younger brother, Hamid Apdal, was also arrested by MACC, followed by the detention of Hamid’s son-in-law last Sunday.
All of the arrests are linked to MACC's investigation into the alleged misappropriation of at least RM1.5 billion in rural development funds intended for Sabah.
To date, MACC has questioned over 45 people in relation to the case.
Shafie was previously Umno vice-president and Rural and Regional Development Minister.
He was sacked from his Cabinet position in 2015 for questioning Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak’s role in the 1MDB scandal.
He resigned as Umno vice-president a year later, following a period of suspension.
Shafie, who is also the Semporna MP, subsequently formed Warisan, a Sabah-based party aimed at unseating Umno in the state.
