The low attendance at the opposition rally in Petaling Jaya yesterday proves that the people are fed up with their propaganda, said Education Minister Mahdzir Khalid.
The rally at Padang Timur which began at 4pm had targeted some 100,000 people, but the organisers later announced that only 25,000 people attended the rally.
“The people are fed up with all kinds of insults spewed by opposition leaders who do not show the polite culture and customs of Malaysians.
"The opposition leaders also play up old issues in their speeches and did not present their election manifesto,” Mahdzir (photo) told reporters at an event with Padang Terap Umno division veterans in Kedah today.
Referring to a remark that Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak was an enemy of the state, Mahdzir said it was sheer nonsense.
The Umno supreme council member was referring to a remark made by former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad during the rally.
Meanwhile, Kelantan Umno chief Mustapa Mohamed said the failure of the opposition to attract many participants to the ‘Love Malaysia, End Kleptocracy‘ rally proves that the people are getting a better understanding of the situation from the explanations given by the government in fending off numerous baseless accusations.
Mustapa said it simultaneously showed that the people were starting to reject any agenda by the opposition because the issues they harped on were baseless.
“In fact, the gathering did not get a response from among their own members,” he told reporters after a Sungai Rual Orang Asli Development Programme Co-Ordination Meeting at the Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Sungai Rual school hall in Jeli today.
Mustapa, who is also International Trade and Industry Minister, said BN had expected that the programme by the opposition would not get the people’s response this time.
