Pakatan Harapan will not be able to uphold and defend Islam in the country because the opposition coalition has been dominated by DAP, claimed Umno information chief Annuar Musa.
Annuar said that Harapan does not speak up on many issues related Islam, such as the amendments to the Syariah Courts (Criminal Jurisdiction) Act and the beer festival issue, which clearly shows DAP’s dominance in the coalition.
“Besides that, not a single Islamic agenda was carried out by Pakatan Harapan, including in Selangor or in Penang, because DAP controls them, and that party has no interest at all in upholding Islam.
“In fact, in DAP’s constitution it is clearly stated that they are fighting for secularism,” he said in an event in Kota Bharu last night.
In contrast, Umno has always prioritised Islam, insisted Annuar.
In the end, he said, it is up to the rakyat whether they want to choose a Harapan under DAP control, or BN headed by Umno to lead the country.
Umno leaders have repeatedly said that DAP is the de facto leader of the opposition coalition, due to them holding the most number of seats in Parliament among the four coalition parties.
In turn, DAP has accused Umno of attempting to instil fear in the Malay electorate by portraying them as a threat to the position of Malays and Islam.
