YOURSAY | ‘Ridhuan is correct to say ‘sensitive’ Muslims should not touch money.’

Ridhuan Tee disagrees with Zamihan's 'unclean' Chinese remark

Vijay47: Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin lecturer Mohd Ridhuan Tee Abdullah, it appears that your somewhat long absence from the public eye has brought you some benefit, though considering how deeply entrenched your attitudes are, that improvement is hardly likely.

But in fairness to you, you may have gone to some mountain top to have communion with God and the Ridhuan Tee Abdullah we now see is not the same vile misled person we are accustomed to.

Coming from you, your attempts at rescuing the Chinese community from "misrepresentation" is hypocrisy at its highest.

You have spent almost your entire public life denying your Chinese origins, and sought to display yourself as more Malay than Malays, more Muslim than Muslims.

That is fine, except that in seeking to achieve a status you are not entitled to, you embarked on heaping insult and offence on everything that was not Malay or Muslim. So for you to now make statements reflecting intelligence is close to impossible for us to absorb.

Again, in fairness to you, you may have seen the light and reformed, the leopard may have changed its spots. But I will not be betting on it just yet.

Monty: If this man had made these comments earlier and before the Sultan of Johor condemned the Muslims-only laundrette, we could have some respect for him. And for his interpretation.

Now he is just trying to gain some publicity on the back of that unfortunate preacher, Pertubuhan Ahli Sunnah Wal Jamaah Malaysia (Aswaja) chief Zamihan Mat Zin.

Ridhuan has done little to improve relations between Muslims and non-Muslims. He is simply an opportunist.

Ramesh Rajaratnam: I'm tempted to believe that Ridhuan was misquoted...these are sensible words from his mouth. Astonishing.

Ravinder: Ridhuan is correct to say "sensitive" Muslims should not touch money as it was circulated in shops that sell pork and gambling dens.

All these racist attacks are due to the inaction of the government. The government was obviously happy with the Muslims-only launderette, hence not a word was uttered by anyone in the government, not even by the "father" of the nation, i.e., the PM.

He was shamed and left no choice but to support the stand taken by the Sultan of Johor, whereas he should have taken the lead to disapprove racism in any form.

He only talks about "unity" and "wasatiyyah" but does not take pro-active steps to put his words into practice as seen in the launderette and other cases of bigotry and racism.

Anonymous 1811351504586755: Zamihan talks as a supremacist Muslim who condemns non-Muslims as unclean, based on the latter using toilet paper instead of water.

Do we have to divulge how we bathe so that this so-called Islamic religious body can certify our personal hygiene?

How about the messy wet floors in our public toilets after some people have washed themselves; this is totally unhygienic, not civic-minded and could potentially spread disease.

These bigots can serve us better by combatting the high incidents of rape and incest cases, drug abuse, sexually transmitted diseases and youth delinquency instead of running down non-Muslims.

Allforit: "It is true that the majority of Chinese do not clean themselves with water after going to the toilet, as they prefer to use toilet paper. But to generalise and say the Chinese are 'not clean', I cannot agree with this," said Ridhuan in an article published on Ikatan Muslimin Malaysia's website.

Folks, what do you make of the above statements. Ridhuan uses “majority,” then he goes on to say not to “generalise.” What is he talking about?

I suspect he is mocking the Chinese. Indeed, everyone knows that the Chinese or Malays or Indians use toilet paper and they immediately wash with water.

Any race will do so whenever water is available. If water is not available, perhaps they will have to wait to wash themselves with it, and will do so immediately when it is available.

Hang Tuah PJ: "On the other hand, those who are 'unclean', who consume pork and rear dogs, among other things, they are working day and night for money and to be rich. Their social problems are not as concerning as ours today. In view of this, it is not wise to generalise," said Ridhuan.

I am a Muslim and I have two dogs. And I don't give two hoots about you labelling me unclean. At least, my mind, heart and mouth are "clean," unlike yours and Zamihan's.

Vgeorgemy: On a personal note, we fully agree with Ridhuan on the cleanliness of Chinese restaurants. Whenever we go outstation, we only have food in Chinese restaurants. We can be assured of cleanliness and reasonable pricing.

It is better to have moderate views on our religious beliefs as the majority of the food items are imported from non-Islamic countries.

As correctly said, if we have no issues in consuming food items produced in non-Islamic countries, then we would not have any issues with the unisex/ non-religious dhobi shops.

Under Zamihan’s definition of cleanliness, no Chinese can ever become a Muslim anywhere in the world.

Oscar Kilo: In general, Malaysians are dirty. Littering is a way of life. Just look at the dirty public toilets, rat- and cockroach-infested back lanes behind restaurants, "littered" car parks, "rubbished" picnic areas, etc. Often you see piles of tissue paper and food wrappers in parking lots.

Anonymous 2460391489930458: Have you not noticed that some Muslims are living in such horribly filthy conditions as are some non-Muslims?

Filthy people are everywhere, and being clean or dirty is definitely not a religious trait; it's to do with the individual's character and living habits.
