MACC: GE14 screening for candidates only, not family

The MACC said it would screen only the candidates whose names are in the 14th general election (GE14) list submitted by the political parties, without involving their families.

"The question about screening the family members does not arise. It is just screening, not an investigation,” assured MACC chief commissioner Dzulkifli Ahmad.

He said MACC would not expose the names of individuals listed for screening or any information received from the political parties.

“Any relevant development would be relayed to the political party concerned for further action,” he said after closing the commission’s Anti-Corruption Roadshow 2017 (KEJAR 17) in Kuala Lumpur today.

Yesterday, Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak who is also Barisan Nasional chairperson said BN had sent part of the list of proposed candidates for the GE14 to the MACC for screening.

In another development, Dzulkifli said MACC was in the process of completing its investigation papers on the purchase of a hotel in London and Kuching by Felda Investment Corporation (FIC) and would submit them to the Attorney-General’s Chambers in two weeks’ time.

Meanwhile, Parti Gerakan has submitted a list of 50 names as candidates for GE14 to MACC.

Its president Mah Siew Keong said if the individuals passed the screening, the names would be submitted to the Barisan Nasional Supreme Council.

"I can say that 60 percent of the 50 names are new faces; they have worked hard in their respective areas, are familiar and regarded well by the community.”

Mah (photo) said this at a media conference after opening the Pahang Gerakan delegates conference at the party’s headquarters here today. State Gerakan chairperson Tee Yew@ Yee Yew also attended.
