DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang fears that Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's upcoming US visit will torpedo the opposition's allegations against the latter, said Communications and Multimedia Minister Salleh Said Keruak.
"Perhaps Lim is actually scared that Najib’s visit to the US is going to prove that the Department of Justice (DOJ) is not after Najib after all, as the opposition is trying to suggest," Salleh said in a blog post today.
He was commenting on Lim's open letter yesterday urging the cabinet to scrap a meeting between Najib and US president Donald Trump on Sept 12.
The Gelang Patah MP argued that since Najib had not cleared himself of allegations of corruption as implied by the DOJ, meeting Trump would only bring further shame to Malaysia.
The DOJ has claimed that an unnamed Malaysian Official 1 (MO1) had been the recipient of US$731 million allegedly misappropriated from 1MDB.
