Former Sarawak assistant Islamic affairs minister Daud Abdul Rahman passed away today due to heart complications.
The 66-year-old was admitted to the Timberland Medical Centre in Kuching since Wednesday, his daughter Siti Masitah said.
"Dad complained of stomach problems since the first day of Aidilifitri (last Sunday) before being brought to the TMC," Siti Masitah was quoted as saying by Bernama.
He was in critical condition this afternoon before passing away at about 4.10pm.
Daud was a five-term Tupong assemblyperson, having held the seat from 1991 until 2016.
He decided not to contest for the 2016 state elections.
Besides the Islamic affairs portfolio, Daud also served as Sarawak assistant minister of industrial development and assistant minister of infrastructure development.
During his last term in office, Daud was implicated in a corruption scandal.
He was accused of awarding the construction contract for a state building to a company reportedly owned by him.
The issue was brought to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission's attention and Daud then said he would cooperate with the probe.
