Police complete probe papers on Uber driver assault case

The police have completed the investigation papers over the assault case of an Uber (ride-sharing mobile application) driver by a group of men after he was alleged to have molested a Vietnamese woman in Paya Terubung here, recently.

Northeast district police chief ACP Anuar Omar said the papers would be submitted to the deputy public prosecutor tomorrow for further action.

He said the six men, aged between 29 and 40, who were being remanded until today to facilitate the investigations into the case, had been released on police bail.

"The remand order on the 29-year-old driver will end tomorrow while the woman, aged 43, is still under remand by the Penang Immigration Department pending report on her passport," he said in George Town today.

In the 3.30pm incident last Wednesday, the Uber driver was beaten up by over 10 men after he was alleged to have unzipped his trousers and placed the woman's hand on his genitals during a ride from Lintang Paya Terubong to Argyll Road, Georgetown the day before.
