Police confirm M'sian IS fighter is dead

Police have confirmed that Malaysian Islamic State (IS) militant group leader in Syria, Muhammad Wanndy Mohamed Jedi died in an attack in Raqqa, Syria on April 29.

Confirmation was based on analysis of intelligence received, inspector-general of police Khalid Abu Bakar said on his Facebook page.

Wanndy, who hails from Durian Tunggal, Malacca, and Nor Mahmudah, from Perai, Penang, have two daughters who were born in Syria.

He was also identified as a top IS recruiter and was recently linked to Siti Noor Aishah Atam, who was sentenced last month to five years' jail for possessing books on terrorism.

It was reported that Siti Noor Aishah had allegedly pledged allegiance to IS leader Abu Bakr Al-Baghdadi via the Telegram messaging app, with Wanndy acting as her witness...
