Tremors were felt in various parts of peninsular Malaysia as an earthquake shook Northern Sumatra, Indonesia, the Malaysian Meteorological Department said.
The quake was measured at 5.5 on the Richter scale and hit near Medan at about 8.42pm, it said.
On social media, those in Selangor and Penang report feeling tremors at around the same time.
"Earthquake? Felt the tremors on Tower 9 of Menara Timur of PPUM," said Twitter user @aazraai, referring to the Universiti Malaya Medical Centre in Petaling Jaya, Selangor.
