Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) president Muhyiddin Yassin has been urged to clear himself of allegations that he had an affair with a married woman.
Former Bersatu member Khairuddin Abu Hassan said this is in light of claims that founding party member Anina Saadudin was stripped of her post as Srikandi (women) chief due to an alleged sexting scandal.
"This should not be seen as a trivial issue. Bersatu must take proactive measures in order to counter Umno attacks (on Muhyiddin's scandal) in the coming election.
"Bersatu must be seen as clean, and fair... for the good of the party, its president must clear his name," Khairuddin said in a statement today.
The former Batu Kawan Umno division vice-chief was referring to a divorce case in which a former deputy public prosecutor alleged his wife had an affair with Muhyiddin.
The former deputy prime minister has denied the claim, calling it a malicious slander.
Khairuddin said the matter was still a hot topic among the grassroots, and needed to be addressed.
