Strong winds, with a speed up to 40 to 50km per hour, and waves, up to 3.5 metres, are expected to occur in several places from tomorrow until Oct 18 (Wednesday).
Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Madius Tangau said the north-westerly wind is expected to occur in waters off Perlis, Kedah and Penang and the south-westerly wind in waters off Sarawak (Rejang, Mukah, Bintulu, Miri), Sabah (Interior, West Coast, Kudat, Sandakan) and Labuan.
"During that time, significant high tide also occurs in the waters off Perlis, Kedah, Penang, Perak and Selangor which will also expose these areas to a rise in sea water level," he said in a statement today.
Hence, Madius advised residents along these coastal areas to take precautionary meausres and follow the latest development through the Malaysian Meteorological Department website or its myCuaca smartphone application.
