The police said a caller had warned a security personnel at the Bursa Malaysia headquarters in the Exchange Square in Kuala Lumpur that there will be an explosion at the building and nearby Hindu temple after Friday prayers.

Following this, Dang Wangi district police chief Zainol Samah said the security personnel and a colleague lodged a police report.

He said a bomb disposal unit and a K9 unit were dispatched to the location, but no explosive devices were located.

“The police are investigating those involved in the hoax. The case is being investigated under Section 507 of the Penal Code,” he added.

Zainol also advised the public not to panic over the incident, adding that the police are always prepared to face whatever situation.

This afternoon, the Bursa Malaysia building was evacuated and adjacent roads were cordoned off following the bomb threat.

The building was reopened to public access at around 3.30pm.

Despite the threat, Bursa Malaysia's operations continued as normal.

In a press statement, Bursa Malaysia said its building management received the bomb threat at 12.01pm.

It said as a precaution, all tenants and staff were evacuated and respective Business Continuity Plans (BCP) had been activated.
