Selangor PKR said its leaders have met and agreed to reject any efforts to hold a snap election in the state.
Party state leaders met last night and were unanimous in the decision, said PKR Selangor deputy chairperson Zuraida Kamaruddin in a statement this morning.
"Selangor PKR reiterates it will not betray the mandate of the Selangor voters given in the 13th general election.
"Therefore Selangor PKR rejects all efforts by various parties to push for snap polls," she said.
This is despite Pakatan Harapan partner DAP recommending that snap polls be called to preempt the redelineation exercise which many have criticised to heavily favour BN.
Selangor DAP chief Tony Pua had also said the question of betraying the people's mandate does not arise in calling for a snap state election.
Stepping up objections
At the meeting, the state leadership said they will step up efforts to oppose the redelineation instead of opting for snap state polls.
"Selangor PKR will also use all its means from the state government, local council and regional voters to collect objections and take court action against the Election Commission (EC)," said Zuraida.
Selangor Menteri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali yesterday ruled out the need for a snap election and would instead explore legal options to oppose the redelineation exercise.
The issue of snap polls is also expected to be discussed at the next Pakatan Harapan presidential council meeting.
The proposed redelineation would affect the boundaries of 18 out of Selangor’s 22 parliamentary constituencies, which will also affect voter numbers in the state constituencies that lie within these parliamentary seats.
