PAS claims Umno pushing for army camp in Marang to oust Hadi

Terengganu PAS today criticised Marang Umno chief A Latiff Awang pushing to expedite the construction of an army base in the constituency.

Terengganu PAS information chief Mohd Nor Hamzah claimed that the planned development was political in nature, and aimed at ousting PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang as Marang MP.

"Terengganu is not a state at sits at the national border, there are no security concerns and there is already a federal reserve unit camp at Wakaf, Tapai, police barracks in Marang and an Royal Malaysian Air Force based in Gong Kedak, Besut.

"Everyone knows that Umno can normally win (a constituency) through postal votes if there are camps of security forces in the area, like how the Terengganu Menteri Ahmad Razif Abdul Rahman won with postal votes in Sebarang Takir, which had two such camps.

"It is clear there is no immediate necessity to construct an army camp in Marang unless it is for the general election, with the intention to defeat the PAS president who is also the vice-president of the International Union of Muslim Scholars," said Mohd Nor.

Instead, Mohd Nor said the Umno leader should be pushing for a hospital, university and science school in the constituency.

He said these projects have only been proposed but never materialised.

He added that Terengganu voters will judge Umno for being more interested in garnering funds by pushing for an army camp.
