Perak Amanah Youth has urged immediate seat negotiations as the upcoming Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) is set to add to an already crowded electoral field.
Perak Amanah Youth secretary Safarizal Saleh pointed out that Bersatu will surely choose to contest against Umno in the next general election - the same seats which PAS and Amanah are also vying for.
"Perak Amanah Youth hopes that Bersatu led by Muhyiddin Yassin will make early preparations for the approaching 14th general election by determining which seats it will be contesting.
"A potential state that could be won (by the opposition) is Perak, therefore Bersatu should play a major role in toppling Umno/BN in Perak.
"Certainly, a one-on-one strategy is the best formula to achieve this goal and discussions should be held immediately," he said in a statement today.
Safarizal urged Pakatan Harapan and Bersatu to commence early seat negotiations and planning for mobilisation to ensure the alliance poses a strong challenge against BN, particularly in Perak.
He said Lubok Merbau, Manjoi, Pasir Panjang, Selama are among the key marginal Perak state seats that the opposition could potentially capture through direct contest against BN.
BN won all these seats in the last general election with a majority of no more than 1000 votes.
Bersatu, which only admits bumiputera members, is awaiting approval from the Registrar of Societies.
It is to be led by former Umno deputy president Muhyiddin Yassin while Dr Mahathir Mohamad is to be its chairperson.
