Selangor PAS has dismissed the claim that Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak had wooed PAS with RM90 million as a mere “rumour”.

Its commissioner Iskandar Abdul Samad in a statement today pointed out that the claim was made based on a “widespread suspicion”.

“Therefore, the claim is nothing but a rumour. A rumour which we believe was created by those who are ill-intentioned in wanting to discredit PAS,” he said.

Iskandar however believed that the public will reject the claim as it was also nothing but “coffee talk”.

“If ‘coffee talk’ can be considered as concrete evidence then society will be in chaos,” he added.

Sarawak Report editor Clare Rewcastle-Brown yesterday clarified that the claim, which she had published on her website, was merely a "widespread suspicion".

This is after PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man cried foul over the allegation.

Tuan Ibrahim said the claim that PAS leaders had received RM90 million from Najib is false, and the party intends to take legal action over the allegation.

Sarawak Report had in its commentary on Saturday claimed: “He (Najib) has gone on to ‘woo’ the PAS Islamic party away from the opposition coalition in the normal way he woos - RM90 million is widely reckoned to have flowed into the top echelons of PAS in recent months.”

Meanwhile, PAS parliamentarian Mahfuz Omar urged the whistleblower site to name the PAS leaders who had purportedly received the funds.

“I challenge Sarawak Report to name the top PAS leaders and to show the bank account number as how they did with Najib’s bank account.

“If Sarawak Report can reveal the name, the bank account number as well as the flow of funds into the account, I believe the PAS individual(s) would explain whether it was a political donation from Najib to PAS or a personal contribution,” said Mahfuz.

PAS leaders, he said, should not simply ignore the report as it can erode the rakyat’s trust, especially among PAS members towards the party leadership.

The Pokok Sena MP cited how many had thought that the RM2.6 billion donation was a slander but ultimately, both reports by Sarawak Report and the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) were proven to be true.
