An MP has asked how Umno Youth deputy chief Khairul Azwan Harun would know that the three Tan Sris had given false information on 1MDB, since the auditor-general's report on the issue is still under the Official Secrets Act (OSA).
Kuala Terengganu MP Raja Kamarul Bahrin Raja Ahmad Shah said Khairul's allegation against the trio - former Bank Negara governor Zeti Akhtar Aziz, former Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief Abu Kassim Mohamed and former attorney-general Abdul Gani Patail - is serious and raises many questions.
"My question, as an MP, and also an ordinary citizen, is if the report allegedly handed to the US is claimed to be false, which then is the original and genuine report?
"The two have to be displayed and compared to determine which is genuine and which is false.
"The problem is the original report needs to be read along with the auditor-general's report that has been declared a secret under OSA.
"Even we parliamentarians are not allowed to view the auditor-general's report.
"How would the Umno deputy Youth chief be able to prove which is genuine and which is not?" Raja Bahrin asked in a statement today.
He said Umno members should not simply make allegations without proof or justifying their allegations.
'Trio made scapegoats'
He added before the 1MDB scandal, Zeti, Gani and Abu Kassim had been held in high regard, but now suddenly, the Umno Youth leader has lodged a police report against them.
"After government officers are made use of when they were in service, just after they are pensioned, they are made scapegoats without being given a chance to defend themselves," he said.
Last Tuesday, Khairul Azwan filed a police report against the three retired high officials, alleging they had provided confidential information to foreign agencies without authorisation, including the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
He also alleged that some of the documents submitted were falsified and the information twisted to achieve their agenda.
This follows the US Department of Justice’s (DOJ) civil suit to seize and recover billions of dollars in assets, which the department alleged had been siphoned from state fund 1MDB.
Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin has distanced himself from the police report saying it was done in Khairul Azwan's personal capacity.
Prime Minister Najib Razak has claimed the DOJ suits do not directly involve 1MDB, and has waved off the issue, saying "there's nothing, all are as usual".
