PAS has suggested that a snap election be held in Penang after the High Court delivers its verdict on Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng's corruption case.
"Then the rakyat can decide on something that is certain. If Lim is not guilty, DAP will be able to garner more support from the people of Penang," said PAS information chief Nasrudin Hassan.
"If Lim is convicted, Penangites will be saved from giving their mandate to a party and leader who has been proven to be ineffective, not accountable and non-transparent," he added.
Therefore, Nasharuddin urged DAP not to gamble with the nation’s democratic process.
He said the public should not be forced into judging the case based on perception alone as this could be prejudicial towards the judiciary and its decision.
"If DAP truly wants to measure the level of confidence the people have for it, it is more objective to hasten the party's internal polls instead of delaying the process.
"Measuring the confidence of the party's members is more important (than holding snap polls)," he added.
DAP had recently announced it was postponing the party polls pending the 14th general election.
According to Nasharuddin, the truth is that there is no decision over the snap polls not because DAP is waiting for PKR, but because DAP itself lacked confidence in facing the election.
"At least if there is consensus from PKR and Amanah, DAP will not be blamed if the election outcome is not in favour of them," he added.
Nasarudin vowed that if a snap election was called in Penang, PAS is ready to contest.
While PKR is yet to decide whether to back DAP's plan, Amanah has said it would support the move.
