Thunderstorms occuring in the waters off Perlis, Kedah, Penang, Selangor, Malacca, western Johor, eastern Johor, Kelantan, Terengganu and Sandakan in Sabah are expected to continue until early this morning.
The Meteorological Department, in a statement yesterday evening, said it could cause strong winds of up to 50kph and waves of up to 3.5 metres.
The condition is dangerous to small boats, said the statement.
In Penang, the flash flood that hit Teluk Bahang, near Balik Pulau yesterday, was due to poor drainage system at Sungai Teluk Bahang, Balik Pulau MP Dr Hilmi Yahaya said.
Hilmi, who is also deputy health minister, said he would request for state and federal allocations to build a bridge at Sungai Teluk Bahang to replace the two blocked water channels which caused spillage to the village.
He said this to reporters after visiting the temporary flood shelter at the Penang City Council community hall in Balik Pulau last night.
Several low-lying areas in Penang, including Bayan Lepas, Batu Maung, Relau, Teluk Bahang and Penang International Airport were hit by flash flood following continuous heavy rains since noon ysterday.
