DAP's Taiping MP Nga Kor Ming will lodge a police report against what he claims is a smear campaign against him over a controversial Hari Raya Aidilfitri Facebook posting.
The Perak DAP chief regrets the outrage following the posting on a Nga Kor Ming Facebook fanpage, which he said he is unrelated to.
The fanpage which allegedly published a picture of children receiving 'duit raya' to animal feed, has since been deactivated.
"Clearly the caricature is slander made during this sacred month.
"I stress that I did not draw or upload that picture on my own Facebook account and I had no intention to hurt the feelings my Malay and Muslims friends whom I have respected all this while," he said in a statement.
He also attached a poster with a Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri greeting, featuring the customary crescent moon.
Commenting further, Nga said the issue is a political ploy which should not be prolonged.
"Given that it is the sacred month of Syawal, I don't intend to take action (on the slander) because it will only make matters worse...
"Thus I will just lodge a police report on this smear campaign in the nearest future to defend harmony in our beloved society," he said.
The cartoon shows two boys in baju melayu and songkok telling a man, also in the traditional attire, that this year they are not expecting 'duit raya' but donations and 'dedak'.
'Dedak', the Malay word for animal feed, is commonly used in political circles to refer to political handouts used to win supporters and allies.
Several police reports have been lodged against him over the matter.
Umno Youth and Malay rights pressure group Gerakan Merah today also protested in front of the DAP headquarters in Kuala Lumpur.
Inspector-general of police Khalid Abu Bakar said Nga is under probe for sedition.
"We will also investigate if Nga really made the posting or not," Khalid had said.
