PKR Wanita chief Zuraida Kamaruddin said today allegations that she owns nine luxury vehicles are malicious and false.

It is a complete lie that one of the cars she used belonged to a "tauke cina" (Chinese businessperson) or any other private company, Zuraida said.

 

"I view these irresponsible and politically motivated allegations seriously and am consulting my lawyers," she added in a statement.

On June 20, Facebook user 'Rafi Awg Kechik' claimed Zuraida owns eight luxury cars and one motorcycle, and listed the brands and number plates on his page.

 

He alleged that one of her cars, a Mercedes-Benz, was registered under a "Chinese company".
 

"An MP's salary is RM16,000. Do you think they match her income?" 'Rafi Awg Kechik' wrote.

 

The claims were picked up by various pro-Umno blogs, as well as the portal Umno Online, all of which demanded answers from the Ampang MP.

Zuraida said today she only had seven cars and one motorcycle registered under her name, and that she was not the beneficial owner.

“These are not luxury vehicles; they are mostly Japanese models and include a van and a pick-up truck.

"Only one of these cars is for my personal use, whereas another three cars are for the use of my family members who contributed to the purchase price and loan repayment.

"The other three remaining vehicles, although under my name, are paid for and used by party associates. These facts can be verified by those who are the actual users and beneficial owners of the vehicles," she said.

The allegations surrounding Zuraida come on the heels of the June 15 arrest of PKR's former Kapar MP S Manikavasagam for corruption. He has insisted that he is innocent.
