Former independent Bukit Gelugor candidate Abu Backer Sidek Mohammad got into his bag of tricks again when he tried to purchase Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng's house.

Yesterday, he gave a letter with a cheque to the DAP secretary-general's special officer during a breaking of fast session at the Kampung Baru mosque in Penang.

The special officer, Marziah Mohd Mukhtar, expressed her regret over the incident.

She claimed that Abu Backer had tarnished the sanctity of the holy month of Ramadan when he tricked her into receiving the letter and cheque dated yesterday.

Marziah said the event had nothing to do with the Penang state administration.

“Hence, I will return both the letter and cheque, through registered mail, to the law firm representing Abu Backer, that is, Rosli Ismail & Co.

“With the return of the documents, it is hoped that Abu Backer's cheap stunt of trying to create a drama ends there,” she said in a statement.

She further described Abu Backer's stunt as an attempt to create a drama out of this issue.

Due to his past antics, Marziah said she was certain he would not hesitate to do other things to gain attention from the people.

“With past episodes which are comical, we would have to wait and see what would be his next antics,” she said.

Tried to contest in K Kangsar

Abu Backer was also in the limelight when he tried to contest in the Kuala Kangsar by-election but tore up his nomination paper as he claimed of being frustrated with the Election Commission for not allowing his proposer and seconder into the nomination centre.

He also handed over forensic evidence to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and the Attorney-General's Chambers in Putrajaya, in connection with the disposal of land in Taman Manggis.

Abu Backer had asked the MACC to expedite investigations against Lim on the sale of land and the purchase of a bungalow at below market price.

Although he contested in the Bukit Gelugor by-election, he later withdrew from the contest.

He was also the person who threw himself in front of Lim's vehicle after failing to secure a meeting with the DAP leader.
