K KANGSAR POLLS Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak has promised BN parties that they will meet and arrive at a consensus on PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang's Private Member's Bill before the next Parliament sitting.
This is according to Gerakan president Mah Siew Keong, who met Najib, Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and other leaders of BN component parties yesterday.
"We are going to discuss it (the bill) and we are going to have a consensus according to the BN spirit," Mah said after a walkabout in the Kuala Kangsar town centre.
"What I am happy is that the prime minister said we will discuss it in a consensus, everyone will be giving their input," he added.
He added that tonight's roundtable meeting called by Umno information chief Annuar Musa has been called off.
"It is okay the meeting has been called off because it will give more time for all parties to give their views," he said.
Mah, who is also minister in the prime minister's department, believes that the matter can be resolved before the Parliament sitting in October.
The next session commences on Oct 17.
"We will give a lot of input,” he said.
At the last sitting of the Dewan Rakyat, Hadi had tabled a Private Member's Bill which seeks to amend the Syariah Courts (Criminal Jurisdiction) Act 1965 that would pave the way for hudud to be enforced in Kelantan.
The government, represented by Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Azalina Othman Said, had fast-tracked the bill over other government matters.
She claimed that she gave the bill top priority on the instructions of both Najib and Zahid.
Mah, however, declined to comment when asked if both Najib and Zahid had explained why they had issued the order to Azalina without the consensus of the BN parties.
He also did not give a direct answer whether both leaders had apologised to BN parties.
"The most important thing is that (we are) looking forward to have a consensus," he said.
