SG BESAR POLLS Amanah information chief Khalid Samad has promised there will be no more billboards that could be seen as provoking racial sentiments.
"The issue will not happen anymore because of the very short (campaigning) period and we don't want people to lose focus," said the Shah Alam MP during a press conference at the Sekinchan DAP office.
Khalid said he met with Selangor DAP chief Tony Pua this morning and discussed the matter.
"We have agreed that there will be no more billboards of that nature," said Khalid.
"I was not lying yesterday. I really did not know about it when asked about the billboards."
During their meeting, Khalid said Pua told him the Chinese community were angered by the lack of action taken against Umno Sungai Besar chief Jamal Md Yunos for his purported remarks.
"I feel that by putting up the billboard, the Chinese community can release some of their pent-up anger," he said.
Jamal had yesterday denied uttering the quote attributed to him in the banner, claiming it was 'spin' by pro-DAP media.
Asked whether Amanah would be apologising to Jamal, Khalid insisted Jamal should be the one to apologise for his purported remarks.
"He (Jamal) is lucky we will not put any more banners," he added.
On whether Amanah felt DAP had not consulted it before putting up the banners, Khalid said the two parties have discussed how to improve their coordination.
The original billboards, which have since been removed, were located around two roundabouts in the Sekinchan town centre.
Pua, who yesterday admitted that DAP had put up the inflammatory banners, was also present at the press conference.
He did not make any further comments on the issue.
