More ministers threaten to quit over hudud
MIC president and Health Minister Dr S Subramaniam and MCA deputy president and Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Wee Ka Siong join the list of ministers who have threaten to quit the cabinet if laws are changed to allow hudud to take effect.
Perkasa says the resignation threats are an insult to the Yang di-Pertguan Agong, who is head of Islam in Malaysia, and that those do not respect Islam are welcome to quit.
However, Selangor BN liaision chief Noh Omar claims the Private Member's Bill by PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang only aims to expand the jurisdiction of the syariah court and has nothing to do with hudud.
Hudud is the Islamic system of punishments under syariah law.
As such Noh said, non-Muslim voters in the forthcoming Sungai Besar and Kuala Kangsar by-elections not to worry.
PKR's Padang Serai MP N Surendran adds that what was brought forward last Thursday was not the Private Member's Bill, but a motion to seek the bill to be debated.
Widow candidate can't campaign
Umno Youth exco Fathul Bari Mat Jahya questioned if BN's candidate for the Kuala Kangsar by-election Mastura Mohd Yazid should be allowed to leave her home to campaign as she is still under the mourning period of 'iddah'.
Iddah is the period of mourning a woman must observe after the death of her husband.
However, Umno supreme council member Puad Zarkashi says it is no issue as Mastura can campaign via the Internet.
