Bernama TV, a 24-hour news channel, today launched itself as the rebranded Bernama News Channel (BNC) in keeping with the changing media landscape.
Bernama general manager Zulkefli Salleh said the rebranding also marked the growth of the news agency’s television department that was established eight years ago.
“We play an important role in reaching out to the people of Malaysia. At the same time, we need to stay relevant. Thus, it is imperative for us as news aggregators to keep abreast of current thinking and development,” he said when launching BNC at Wisma Bernama in Kuala Lumpur.
He said the rebranding was the first of many changes for BNC.
Zulkefli said that other than news, BNC would also develop its own programmes such as magazines, documentaries and human interest slots to cater to its multi-level audience.
He said it was hoped that with the rebranding, BNC would make its news presentation more creative in enticing the public.
BNC, which offers round-the-clock news coverage, is aired over Astro Channel 502.
It is well-known among the local and international media as well as government agencies, corporations, universities and individuals nationwide.
Bernama, the Malaysian national news agency which celebrated its 48th anniversary on May 20, not only offers wire news service but also various news and media related products.
These include the Bernama.com news portal, Bernama Radio, Bernama Library and Infolink Services, Media Relations and Event Management, Bernama Images, and Bernama Systems and Solutions Advisor.
