Selangor menteri besar Mohamed Azmin Ali has described a report claiming he had issued an ultimatum to three PAS state executive councillors as being “slanderous” and “untrue”.
“Madness. No such thing and it’s not true…,” Azmin is quoted as having told reporters after chairing the weekly state economic action council meeting in Shah Alam.
The PKR deputy president also insisted that negotiations are still going on for the candidates to face the BN in next month’s by-elections for Sungai Besar and Kuala Kangsar.
“Now we are focusing on discussions on the seats and they have not been concluded yet.
“Discussions are still ongoing as I mentioned before and I am meeting with Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) today," Azmin reportedly said.
Amanah’s strategy director Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad (photo) had told Malaysiakini that he would be among the leaders to meet with Azmin.
The Star earlier today quoted sources as saying that Azmin had issued the three PAS state exco members an ultimatum to resign from their positions by Monday, if the Islamist party insisted on fielding a candidate against BN in Sungai Besar.
"Don't jump to conclusions,” Azmin reportedly said when asked whether PAS would remain in the state administration if it contested the seat.
The same article also quoted PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang as having instructed the three leaders to remain in their posts, purportedly during an emergency meeting held at his residence in Terengganu last night.
Earlier yesterday, Hadi denied meeting with Azmin to discuss the two by-elections that would be held on June 18.
Malaysiakini has contacted PAS Selangor commissioner Iskandar Abdul Samad for his comment.
