Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Azalina Othman Said has denied that she lied to Parliament when she said Public Accounts Committee (PAC) members had been informed about the deleted lines in the PAC report on 1MDB.
She said Petaling Jaya Utara MP Tony Pua's statement that she allegedly lied to PAC was untrue and made without any basis.
In a statement today, Azalina said her parliamentary reply to Bagan MP Lim Guan Eng on May 16 was clear and accurate based on the questions asked.
“Hence, what is stated by Petaling Jaya Utara MP is untrue and without any basis. I gave my reply in my capacity as the Minister in the Prime Minister's Department in charge of Parliament.
“The reply I gave is based on information given by the PAC secretariat that members of the committee have been informed about the PAC chairperson's letter to the Bank Negara deputy governor on April 6.
"I am informed by the PAC secretariat itself that they had shown the letter to Pua,” she said.
Azalina said as a member of the committee, Pua could seek explanation directly from the secretariat or the PAC chairperson Hasan Ariffin.
Pua had in a statement today alleged that Azalina had lied in saying that PAC members were informed about the deleted lines from the PAC Report on 1MDB.
“Azalina lied in Parliament that the PAC chairperson had informed or showed its members any letter from Bank Negara which stated that the information provided to the PAC was confidential and not for public consumption,” Pua had said.
