The police will call billionaire Jho Low to assist in the investigation into 1MDB if the need arises, Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said.

"The police will summon the person if there is a need for him to appear to assist police investigation.

"At present, there was no meeting held between the police and him," Zahid said in a parliamentary written reply released yesterday.

He was responding to Sim Tze Tzin (PKR-Bayan Baru) who asked whether Jho Low was still in the country or if he had left, when did his departure occur.

"The police via the Commercial Crime Investment Department, are probing 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) under Section 409 of Penal Code, which is breach of trust," said Zahid in his capacity as home minister.

Police also will probe the 1MDB report by Public Accounts Committee (PAC), he said.

"All the witnesses will be called for testimony if needed," Zahid stressed.

Meanwhile, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Nancy Shukri said the police were still probing the case related to 1MDB.

She said this when asked about the progress in the investigation of Low, who was alleged to have told the 1MDB management to breach the instruction of its board by raising a RM5 billion bond.

"Any further action will be decided after the probe has concluded," she told Tan Kee Kwong (PKR-Wangsa Maju).

Tan asked the action taken by the Attorney-General's Chambers on the case.

PKR secretary-general Rafizi Ramli had lodged a report against Low, who was then the special advisor to 1MDB's precursor  Terengganu Investment Authority (TIA) over the bond.

Rafizi claimed that 1MDB board had instructed the management not to issue the bond.

However, he said, 1MDB former CEO Shahrol Azral Ibrahim Halmi had proceeded to do it.
