DAP’s Teluk Datuk assemblyperson Loh Chee Hong has been sacked from the party after being found guilty of misusing state funds allocated to his constituency.

In a statement, DAP disciplinary committee chairperson Tan Kok Wai said the decision was made after Loh had responded to the allegations against him during a hearing held earlier today.

Tan said the committee had instructed Selangor DAP to conduct an internal investigation after it had received a written complaint on March 2016 against Loh for alleged misuse of state funds.

“The internal investigation by the DAP Selangor state committee found that there was basis to the allegations, i.e. there is evidence of wrongdoing on the part of Loh.

“Following the disciplinary hearing today, during which Loh was given the opportunity to explain himself, the DAP disciplinary committee has concluded that there is evidence of serious misconduct by Loh (photo) and has unanimously decided to terminate his party membership with immediate effect,” said Tan.

He reminded all DAP elected representatives that they are expected to adhere to the highest standards of integrity in their conduct and discharge of public duties.

“Consistent with its principles, the party cannot condone the actions of an elected representative who misuses state funds.

“Such a misconduct is tantamount to a serious breach of public trust placed upon the elected representative,” said the Cheras MP.

Stressing that Loh’s actions has brought disrepute to the party, Tan said his expulsion should be taken as a reminder for other DAP elected representatives not to abuse the trust which has been placed upon them.

When contacted by Malaysiakini, Loh merely said: "Thank you for contacting me. No comment."

With Loh’s sacking, the DAP currently has 14 elected representatives in the 56-seat Selangor state-assembly.
