Lim Kit Siang has emailed Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak over his intention to appear before the cabinet meeting, slated to be held in Kuching tomorrow.
Revealing this in a media statement, the DAP veteran said he wants to present his case on why the cabinet must take a stand on the 1MDB issue.
Apart from this, Lim also issued a challenge to the prime minister to participate in what he termed as a series of "Great Sarawak Debates on 1MDB" or to appoint nominees.
If allowed to attend the cabinet meeting, the Gelang Patah MP said he would provide a briefing of the public feedback he has received from 121 parliamentary constituencies he had visited since his six-month suspension from Parliament.
"I await Najib's reply and although I will be going to Song and Kanowit from Pelagus and Kapit, I am prepared to rush down to Kuching to appear before the cabinet tomorrow because of the critical importance of the 1MDB scandal not only to the economic development of Malaysia but for Sarawak as well," he added.
Lim pointed out that the situation for 1MDB is getting grimmer and storm signals are going off all over the world.
He warned that the end-game for Malaysia's first global financial scandal might not be far off.
The DAP leader said even if a worst-case scenario occurs, it is not Najib or 1MDB who would suffer the consequences, but Malaysians, their children and children’s children would have to foot the bill, which he described as gargantuan.
As for the debates on 1MDB, Lim suggested that they be held starting tomorrow in Kuching, followed by Sibu on Thursday and Miri on Friday.
"DAP representatives will get in touch with the Prime Minister's Office on the Great Sarawak debates on 1MDB.
"The prime minister himself is the best candidate to appear at all three debates so that Sarawakian voters can fully understand the ins and outs; the origin, causes, development and solution of Malaysia's first global financial scandal.
"However, Najib has the liberty to appoint any nominees to the debates," he added.
Meanwhile, Lim said he is appointing DAP lawmaker Tony Pua to liaise with the Prime Minister's Office to finalise the details.
