S'WAK POLLS BN direct candidate in Bawang Assan seat Wong Soon Koh has brushed off claims that he is aiming for the deputy chief minister post.

"I never thought of it. I am happy with what I am... a senior minister.

"In fact, I have nothing much to look for, to aim for," he told Malaysiakini.

Wong, a prominent political figure in central Sarawak, has been the Bawang Assan assemblyperson since 1991.

He quit Sarawak United People's Party (SUPP) and formed United People's Party (UPP) following internal tussle.

Seven UPP leaders have resigned to contest under the BN ticket, including Wong, at seats that traditionally belonged to SUPP.

Malaysiakini had quoted a BN source who claimed of sabotage where at least one-third of the 82 seats are witnessing attempts to undermine the chances of the candidates, particularly in Bawang Assan and Batu Kawah, where SUPP chief Dr Sim Kui Hian stands.

The source also claimed that the sabotage campaign was aimed at preventing Wong and Sim from winning, thus denying them of any chance of being appointed as a deputy chief minister.

The post was left vacant following the defeat of then SUPP president and deputy chief minister George Chan in the 2011 state election.

Wong was appointed as a senior minister.

When asked about Sim's chances of being appointed as deputy chief minister, he simply wished his former colleague the best of luck.

"I wish him good luck. I have no ambition. I am happy with what I am," he repeated.
