S'WAK POLLS PKR deputy president Azmin Ali has managed to enter Sarawak amid an incessant ban on opposition leaders and activists - but has been given entry only until May 2.
“Sarawak immigration has asked me to leave Sarawak on May 2. Whose orders are these?” Azmin asked on Twitter.
At a press conference in Kuching later, the Selangor menteri besar said no reason was given as to why his visit was limited to such a short stay.
Malaysiakini has contacted the Sarawak Immigration Department for a response.
Azmin is in Kuching to help PKR's campaign for two days.
His official schedule states that he is supposed to be back at the Kuching airport tomorrow evening.
Sarawak, which has an its own immigration laws, normally grants a 90-day visa for visitors from the peninsula.
However, the state reserves the right to bar entry to anybody and to limit the number of days it allows visitors.
A long list of opposition leaders have been denied entry into the state, although Chief Minister Adenan Satem has made an exception for some, including DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng and party veteran Lim Kit Siang.
He has also said that PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail and vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar would be allowed in, if they ask nicely.
Adenan has said that those denied entry could jeapordise harmony in Sarawak.
