S'WAK POLLS DAP's candidate for Simanggang blasted Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak for dangling 4G internet if BN wins in the Sarawak election but still failing to provide electricity and water services to some in the state after 53 years of BN rule.
Leon Jimat Donald questioned if BN could fulfil its promise of providing 4G internet services in the state when it still could not fully provide basic facilities to all Sarawakians.
“How is Najib going to convince Sarawakians that the BN government will bring development for Sarawak when at the moment there are many basic infrastructure problems which unresolved as yet?" he said in a statement today.
He was responding to Najib's promise to upgrade the state's internet infrastructure and provide 4G coverage if BN was given a strong mandate in the May 7 state election.
Instead, Leon said the BN government should be focussing on rural long houses which are lacking basic services.
Leon also criticised BN for using internet infrastructure as an election goody to court for votes.
According to the Auditor-General's Report 2014, the Sarawak government has provided electricity to 536,278 applicants under its rural electricity programme.
However, a significant sum of 41,588 applicants have yet to receive 24-hour electricity.
The report said the 41,588 applications which have yet to receive electricity, affects 207,940 people in total.
