Sarawakians, if M'sia burns, we burn together

YOURSAY | ‘National issues like GST, OSA, ISA, 1MDB, affects all, and shouldn't be ignored.’

Don't use 1MDB, fight on local issues, Adenan tells opposition

Fairplayer: If PM Najib Abdul Razak is clean and innocent, the 1MDB issue should help BN win the Sarawak state election.

The rakyat will be punished by GST and skyrocketing prices of goods and services if BN wins.

Can Sarawak Chief Minister Adenan Satem guarantee that GST and prices of goods and services will not increase? And that the victimisation of the rakyat will not be compounded by the 1MDB scandals in the days ahead?

1MDB hits everyone - from new-born babies to the non-working elderly. 1MDB and GST must be trumpeted to the gullible voters. DAP, PKR and Amanah must do just that.

Anonymous_1371866496: Seriously? National issues have nothing to do with Sarawak? I will not dignify his comments with a response. Sarawakians, it’s time to wake up. If Malaysia burns, we burn together.

Anonymous_1421406986: Adenan is perfectly right. Why must DAP highlight issues related to Peninsular Malaysia? It must speak on issues related to Sarawak. Imagine DAP's AGM focusing on matters related to other political parties and not itself.

An election battle must be confined to matters ailing the people of that particular state, matters that concern their bread and butter.

Yes, 1MDB is a national issue, but what is its impact on Sarawak’s people?

Wong Fei Hoong: National issues are also Sarawakian issues such as the GST, the OSA, the ISA, 1MDB and many, many more.

It affects the livelihood of all Sarawakians. Supporting Adenan means supporting Najib, meaning supporting corruption and a dictatorial regime.

The opposition should not fear bringing these issues up in the coming election. Adenan is very fearful of them.

Malaysian2: Sarawak BN parliamentarians are helping this immoral government stay in power. So why must the opposition play by your rules?

SSDhaliwal: As long as Sarawakians are taxpayers, it has everything to do with them since the 1MDB debt will be paid by all taxpayers, including Sarawakians.

Slumdog: Adenan is sneaky and devilish, and he is prepared to play dirty by barring Amanah, PKR and the DAP members from entering Sarawak, fearful of what they may say.

But he is daring DAP to link him with Najib and the 1MDB scandal. If I were the opposition, I would take every opportunity to do exactly that.

Adenan is trying to fool Sarawakians into not realising that a vote for Sarawak BN is a vote for Umno BN and ultimately a vote of confidence, trust and acceptance of Najib and his scandal-prone government in Putrajaya.

Prudent: National issues do not affect Sarawak? I tell you straight: National issues such as 1MDB are going to hit Sarawakians' pockets, very, very hard.

Najib's tax take from Sarawak is at least RM15 billion from oil and gas and GST, not to mention income tax and other taxes like custom duties.

The RM3 billion 'I help you, you help me' gift he is 'giving' to Sarawak is small change and after the election, little will be seen of the RM3 billion, if any.

And even then, most of the RM3 billion, if not used for the elections, will go to cronies, with crumbs for the ordinary Sarawakians.

Also most of 1MDB's debt of RM50 billion or more is guaranteed by the federal government which means the taxpayers, including Sarawakians.

Much of the money has disappeared, allegedly siphoned out fraudulently. To repay it, Najib must raise taxes including GST.

Since revenue from GST is easiest to raise and can be collected in big amounts, it is likely to go up from six percent to at least eight percent or more. That will hit ordinary Sarawakians really hard.

Imraz Ikhbal: "I know that the opposition parties will bring in national issues to attack Sarawak BN. DAP likes to do this. I challenge them to fight using only Sarawak issues and not national issues," Adenan said.

Can we likewise challenge Adenan to accept the rule that if they win any seats, it will only be state seats that they will take and that any win will not go towards the count for parliamentary seats since Parliament is a national matter and not a state matter, no?

Batu Api: "Don't drag national issues into Sarawak." I just want to ask him a simple question: Isn’t Sarawak part of Malaysia?

Bluemountains: Sarawakians have every right to bring in national issues. Adenan cannot be oblivious to the fact that Sarawakians cannot run away from paying income tax, GST and other taxes to the federal government in Putrajaya.

Adenan cannot be ignorant of the fact that Sarawakians are also paying the price for the mess in 1MDB created by national leaders in Putrajaya.

PTH: Any issue, whether local (state) or national, will impact the rakyat wherever they may be. It is ludicrous to suggest that we can segregate our existence as a rakyat into local or national.

Anonymous_1391693662: If you have done 50 good things for Sarawak, then why ban the opposition from the peninsula? Are you scared?

By allowing them, they might highlight another 50 good things that you might have left out.

Kit P: By his very act of banning numerous opposition figures from entering the state, Adenan has been playing national politics.
