The prosecution is appealing Amanah president Mohamad Sabu's criminal defamation case after the Butterworth Sessions Court acquitted him in July last year.

Mohamad Sabu, popularly known as Mat Sabu, was accused of criminally defaming police officers and their families who were killed during the communist attack on Bukit Kepong police station in 1950.

Mohamad's lawyer Aminuddin Zulkipli in a statement today said he was informed of the appeal and the case will be brought to the Penang High Court.

"The prosecution has appealed as they were dissatisfied with the previous decision.

"The case management will take place on April 21," said Aminuddin, who is also Tanjung Malim Amanah chief.

Mohamad Sabu had in a ceramah on Aug 21, 2011 said the policemen killed in the attack were British officials.

He described the attack, led by Mat Indera, as a struggle for independence.
