Penang exco lodges report with MACC over Perda land sale

A Penang state executive council member today lodged a report with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) over the sale of land that belonged to the Penang Regional Development Authority (Perda) at below market price.

Dr Afif Bahardin said the decision to lodge a report on the sale of land in Kampung Tok Keramat, Seberang Perai Selatan was agreed at the state executive council (exco) meeting yesterday.

"I would like to name Perda chairperson and Tasek Gelugor Member of Parliament Datuk Shabudin Yahaya as the person responsible for the sale of land at below market price.

"We believe there are elements of breach of trust whereby Perda's assets meant for the people was sold at below market price," he told reporters before lodging the report at the MACC in George Town.

On April 1, Shabudin told a press conference that Perda sold the land for RM1.42 million by placing conditions on the project developer to build more low-cost and affordable houses priced between RM42,000 and RM72,000.

Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng had reportedly said the Inland Revenue Board (IRB) had valued the 3.4 hectare land at RM16.6 million.

Afif, who is also Seberang Jaya state assemblyperson, urged Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak to intervene since Perda is an agency under the federal government and placed under the Prime Minister's Department.
