MACC ambushed Guan Eng's office, claims DAP MP

DAP Tanjong MP Ng Wei Aik claimed that the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) had changed its plan and opted to “ambush” Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng’s office on Komtar’s 28th floor yesterday.

Ng said a day earlier, MACC through a media statement had invited Lim to “come over anytime” to assist in its investigation related to the CM’s purchase of a RM2.8 million bungalow on Jalan Pinhorn.

“But the next day, MACC officers have changed their plan and opted to ambush the CM's office on the 28th floor of Komtar.

“Why is MACC dilly-dallying on how to approach Lim to assist in its probe?” Ng ( photo ), who is also Penang DAP publicity secretary, asked in a statement today.

Malaysiakini was at Lim’s office fromm 3pm yesterday, but failed to meet the two MACC officers who were in the CM’s office. They left the building at about 5pm.

The duo are believed to have looked through documents related to the controversial bungalow, which Lim is alleged to have purchased at below the market value.

This is the second visit, as the MACC officers also visited the state secretariat office on Monday.

However, Lim was still in Kuala Lumpur yesterday, attending the parliamentary session, and is back to Penang today for his usual meeting with all elected representatives from the DAP at Komtar.

Lim's accuser, Umno Tasek Gelugor MP Shabudin Yahaya, also tried to link the purchase to the sale of a state government land in Taman Manggis to a private developer.

But Lim denied the allegations, saying the house was sold to him on a willing buyer-willing seller basis, and that the Taman Manggis land was sold via an open tender committee chaired by the state secretariat, and not him.

Ng said Lim is definitely the “most difficult political enemy” for Umno, MCA and Gerakan.

“Without getting rid of Lim, no way BN can break DAP’s power base in Penang.

“However, all DAP leaders and members will not allow Lim to fight alone Umno’s conspiracy, including all sorts of lies and unfounded accusations levelled at him," Ng added.
