PARLIAMENT The Home Ministry today clarified that the written parliamentary replies on levy on foreign workers, which showed different figures, referred to two different things.
This comes following confusion over discrepancy of figures provided in two replies on the total levy collected on foreign workers.
The Home Ministry said the figures referred to total levy collected from new workers and total levy collected from new and existing workers, it said.
The figure RM254.62 million only refers to levy collected on new foreign workers, from 2010 to 2015.
The figure RM2.25 billion refers to all levy collected on foreign workers, including renewal of permits for existing workers, from 2011 to 2015, it said.
This was in written replies to Siti Mariah Mahmud (Amanah-Kota Raja) on March 16 and Steven Sim (DAP-Bukit Mertajam) on March 21, 2016.
"As such, both figures given refer to different things based on the questions asked by the members of parliament and there is no discrepancy," it said.
