PKR deputy president Azmin Ali today threw his support behind suspended Umno deputy president Muhyiddin Yassin's call for institutional reform in the country.
Azmin said the call is consistent with the 'reformasi' struggle which was initiated by now incarcerated PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim in 1998.
"The time has come for all political parties, civil society organisations, leaders and individuals to unite as a rakyat that is focussed on the higher objective of saving the nation.
"This joint initiative must be turned into a reality to set the country back on the path of genuine democracy.
"It is not too late yet for change. Just like Muhyiddin, the rakyat's wish and aspiration is also to make a government that is just, trustworthy, and honest a reality," he said.
Azmin added that this is the turning point for change in the country.
He said the ongoing financial scandals, decay of national institutions and suppression of rights should prompt everyone to unite for reform.
"We must rise above our differences and unite in our desire to take over a weak national leadership.
"The rakyat can no longer tolerate the violation of human rights. They should not suffer from injustices at the hands of leaders who abuse their powers.
"Let's move ahead; don't look back. We need to unite for change," he said.
Muhyiddin today warned that Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak was tightening his grip on power amid corruption investigations against him for receiving RM42 million from state-owned SRC International and RM2.4 billion from an offshore company.
Attorney-general Mohamed Apandi Ali has refused to prosecute Najib, stating that there is no case but the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) is appealing.
Echoing this is Amanah's Kuala Terengganu MP Raja Bahrin Shah who called for a series of transformation from top to bottom.
"If not, we will be left with scraps as the country is looted by serial robbers," he said.
