MIC respects the decision of the Umno supreme council to suspend Muhyiddin Yassin from the post of party deputy president, describing is as the right of the party, said its president Dr S Subramaniam.
“They have made a decision. We will not get involved in the activities of another BN party. I think the BN party has got its own right to take whatever decision which it thinks to be appropriate.
“So whatever they decide, it is their internal party affair. MIC will respect the decision of the party," he said at a media conference after officially opening the Workshop on the Social Media's Strategic Coordination and Management, in Kuala Lumpur today.
The workshop was attended by 70 participants who are actively using the social media comprising central working committee members, heads of divisions, and the party's Youth, Wanita, Putera and Puteri wings.
Dr Subramaniam was commenting on the decision of the Umno supreme council yesterday in suspending Muhyiddin from the post of party deputy president effective immediately, until the next council election.
Yesterday, Umno secretary-general Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor announced the decision after the MT meeting. The tasks of the deputy president would be carried out by (one of three) Umno vice-president(s), Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
Subramaniam said the MIC, too, had carried out such actions and would do so again for the good of the party if any MIC member was found to have breached party discipline.
“We have also suspended people. We have expelled people too because we felt it was right and the party needs to do it," he said .
On the one-day workshop, he said it was held to coordinate all efforts by MIC besides promoting the party's activities through the social media as a preparation in facing the 14th general election.
"The message conveyed via the social media must be clear and should not confuse the readers. Such effort also aims to defend the party from any external criticism," he added.
